DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM

An International Conference (8th) on ‘Doing Research’ 16-17 August 2024


Doctoral Consortium is a two-day forum, of IASE, Pune. The consortium is organized by Forum for Culture Studies, a registered public trust, and Institute of Advanced Studies in English (IASE) Aundh, Pune. The venue will be MDC-5, YASHADA, near Sakalnagar, S P Pune University main gate and the dates are 16 and 17 August 2024. The Consortium includes student presentations, panel sessions and, keynote presentations.

 

The young research (Ph D) scholars will get opportunities to

  • present their research in a supportive environment,
  • receive constructive feedback from peers and experienced researchers,
  • discuss concerns about research and career, supervisor’s role and administrative processes, and other related issues,
  • network with peers, successful alumni of IASE and, future colleagues.

 

The Ph D awarded students are expected to

  • exchange ideas and experiences,
  • discuss the intricacies involved in carrying out research,
  • narrate their progression from registration to declaration, including dilemmas and success stories,
  • relate their research with career and personal transformation.

 

The keynote speakers / panelists are expected to highlight the

  • transformative role of research,
  • importance of rigor, consistency and, discipline,
  • importance of decision-making and problem-solving,
  • precautions to be taken while authoring thesis, and
  • provide global and fresh perspectives on doing research.

 

The organizers aim at developing a supportive research community that will be instrumental in assisting, orienting, and training research scholars.


Submission of Abstract: Proposals (abstracts) for presentation can be submitted to iasepune@gmail.com as an attachment. Approval/Acceptance of the proposal will be communicated in 6-8 working days. Abstracts submitted in time will be scheduled in the printed program.


Guidelines For Abstract Submission:  

  • Abstracts, in 150 words, related to individual research should be submitted as an attachment to email with ‘Submission of Abstract’ typed in the subject field.
  • The First and Last Name of author, affiliation of author, should be clearly mentioned.
  • Use Microsoft Word, Times New Roman, 12 pts for the draft.
  • Title: less than 12 words, first letter of key words in upper case (capital) and, 12 pts in bold.
  • Abstract should be a continuous expository narrative, not a list of points or PowerPoint presentation.
  • Avoid using any advanced word features like background or font color, highlighting and embossing. Avoid footnotes and titles.
  • The draft should be thoroughly checked and proofread before submission. Revised versions or re-submissions will not be accepted

Presentations: Each presenter will be given 7-8 minutes for presentation followed by 3-4 minutes for discussion. The Conference Hall is equipped with PPT.


Publication: All accepted abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings. Full-length papers, to be developed after the conference, will be accepted for publication in Asian Quarterly.

 

Authors need to observe the following guidelines for submission of articles for publication;

  • Soft copy of the original paper, up to 3000 words, should be submitted in Microsoft Word format using Times New Roman, 12 pts through email attachment at iasepune@gmail.com
  • Title: maximum 12 words, 12 pts, bold, centered with the first letters of keywords in upper case (Capital). Title of the paper should be followed by, name/s of author/s, affiliation of the author/s, email ID and abstract shortened to 100 words
  • Paper should be written as continuous expository narrative–not as lists of points or PowerPoint presentation. Use MLA style for references
  • Please ensure that the article is thoroughly checked and proofread before submission. The first submission will be treated as final. Revised or re-submitted papers will not be accepted
  • Please avoid using advanced word features like lines separating footnotes and titles, background or font colors, drawing objects, highlighting, embossing and other complex Word text formatting.

Important Information and Guidelines:

1. The following are the major stages at which we communicate through email:

     a. Acceptance of Proposal/ Abstract (6-8 working days from submission),

     b. Confirmation of Registration (6-8 working days from the date of payment of registration fees),

     c. Participant Profile for Approval (generated and emailed to participants at least 15 days before the commencement of conference),

     d. Conference Program (emailed to registered participants 8-10 days before the commencement of the conference).

 

2. Please carefully read all our communication. There are important instructions/guidelines in our Acceptance Letter, Confirmation of Registration Letter, and the Covering Letter accompanying the Participant Profile.

3. All attending participants need to register by paying the required fees.

4. Accompanying persons (parents, spouses, friends) will be required to pay Rs. 1500/- per person for food, etc. No certificates or kit will be issued to them. 

5. Participants from outside India are advised to register at least three months in advance so that they get enough time for completing the formalities for getting Indian Visa. They are also required to submit the following details along with registration: Name (Surname, Given Name, Father’s Name), date and place of birth, nationality, passport number, date and place of issue, expiry date and registered address, and visa details.


Venue

The conference will be held at the MDC-5, YASHADA located approximately 500 mtrs from Pune University Main Gate, on Baner Road, Aundh, Pune 411007. MDC is a premier state-of-the-art conference centre in central part of Pune city. The auditorium, conference rooms, guest rooms and dining hall are air-conditioned, comfortable and equipped with computers, LCD and sound system.


Accommodation

The organizers will not provide accommodation. There are all types of hotels (budget to seven star) in the city of Pune and the participants are advised to book accommodation at their own discretion and well in advance. Google search will provide you innumerable options. YASHADA Guest House is one possibility.

BOOK TO BE PUBLISHED

A book with write-ups on Ashok Thorat will be prepared, designed and finally published in the last session (Stepping Down) of the Conference. The idea is to collect write-ups, voluntarily written by IASEans from the following categories;

  1. research scholars whose research was supervised by Ashok Thorat;
  2. colleagues and close friends;
  3. IASE Alumni.

Around forty write-ups in about 500 words each will be included in the book along with 12-14 pages of colour pictures, a 3-4 - page write-up by and 3-4- page resume of Ashok Thorat. In all it will be an 80-90-page book that will be distributed among the writers and participants in the last session of Doctoral Consortium, as a complimentary copy.
